Skyrim - Hunters Guild - MOD
While looking through the forum of Great House Fliggerty, I saw the topic of a Hunters Guild being discussed and joined in.
This is a part of the initial post :
"It surprises me that, in a land this wild, this large, and this full of wildlife, there seems to be lacking a hall, guild, or organization for hunters. A large wooden hall set in the woods where woodsmen, hunters, and other nature based people could gather together to trade tales, trophies, gear, and spoils of the hunt. Where men of skill can offer young upstarts training in the ways of stealth, to better sneak up on wild game, in the ways of the bow to easily take down their quarries, and perhaps even those who would offer training in alchemy. It could be a nice place nestled in the woods at the base of a mountain where game is plentiful and nature abounds. Some things it should have include:
Trainers: Archery, Light Armor, Sneaking, Alchemy, maybe One-Handed
Vendors: Bows and Arrows, Axes and Daggers, Light Armor (Fur, Leather, Studded), Potions and Ingredients (Fitting the hunter's lifestyle), Food, Materials/Trophies (Pelts, Furs, Tusks, Beaks, Claws, etc Anything found on an animal or beast.)
Crafting: Forge, Table, Grindstone, Leather Rack, Cooking Pot, Woodcutting, Maybe Alchemists Table"
After a few posts I decided to have a go at making a MOD for a Hunters Guild. I am writing this assuming the readers have an understanding of the Creation Kit. If not then leave a comment and I could do a series of posts covering the basics.
The initial idea I had was to place the Guild in a Forest or wooded area which seemed like the logical place as most of you would agree I'm sure. However when I started to look at the map of Skyrim through the Creation Kit I realized that it is covered with traps, triggers and a whole host of other stuff that is not visible to the player in-game. As I did not want to move or delete or tamper with any of the original game design it didn't leave me with much choice left as far as locating my Guild went. I also couldn't really find a nice wooded area to use without me having to add a lot of trees or moving trees around which would also mean redoing the navmesh.
I had another good think about the location problem and part of the process involved me running around Skyrim with my character to find nice looking locations.
I did find something completely opposite to the original idea which was the Tundra Plains area just West of Whiterun. I found a beautiful spot near a river with amazing views of the mountains (see pictures above and below) and while I was standing there in-game I saw some deer come up to the water and drink, I knew then that it was a good spot! even if there were no trees in sight.
Now that I had the location it was time to think about what buildings were going to make up the Hunters Guild.

Dragonborn - Done and Dusted
Well I have pretty much done all there is to do in Solstheim. While I have not recorded every part of my adventures I must say that they were very enjoyable and I am seriously looking ahead to The Elder Scrolls Online MMO coming soon.
I have been playing with the Creation Kit and will be showing some MODs I have been working on in the next few posts.

Sapphire - Thieves Guild Skyrim and the truth about her
How many of you, like myself, pestered Sapphire endlessly about her past in Skyrim only to be rebuffed? Well in Dragonborn, you will find a note in Glover Mallory's house that reveals Sapphire as his daughter. I really loved this little touch.
If you tell her this by bringing her Glover's Letter,
My dearest daughter Sapphire,
It's with a heavy heart that I write this letter. For years I've thought about how I could tell you this, and each time I imagined it would be face-to-face. I'm ashamed for what I did, and I hope that someday you'll learn to forgive me. Whatever you do, don't blame Delvin for any of this. He didn't know.
Long after I joined the Guild, I was sent to rob a caravan that was stopping at a tiny farming village not far from the border of Skyrim. When I arrived there, I was a day early and decided to sleep for the night in the barn of a pig farm. I awoke the next morning when the most beautiful woman I'd ever laid eyes upon walked in to do her chores. She wasn't even frightened when she saw me... in an instant I think we had both fallen in love. I ended up living with that woman in that tiny little village for a year until she was with child. And then, like a coward... I ran away. I was a thief and I didn't want to end up a farmer. It was a terrible thing to do.
I didn't have the courage to return to that village for almost fifteen years. When I finally decided to visit, it was too late. It had been raided by bandits and burned to the ground. Everyone was either dead or gone. Including you... my only child.
Years later, when you were recruited by Brynjolf I couldn't believe my eyes. You're a spitting image of your mother and I knew it was you in an instant. Only the gods know how you survived the attack on that village and why you followed in my footsteps, but I have to assume it was meant to be. I've wanted to walk right up to you and embrace you, to tell you the truth, but I was still a coward. I decided to leave Riften instead of facing your anger. I said my goodbyes to Delvin and I headed for Solstheim... as far from the truth as I could get.
I'm sorry, my daughter. I'm sorry for never being there to hold you at night or to protect you from whatever hardships you endured. One day, I hope you'll make the journey to Solstheim and visit your father.
She will reward you with an exquisite sapphire.
